Hey Learner👩🏽‍🎓, I see you over there.

The Learner talent of the CliftonStrengths assessment is a real beauty. See if you can relate:

You are some kind of fierce constantly on a journey for new mastery. Captivated by new topics and concepts, you let new ideas take your mind places you never expected. You are always on the continuous improvement train and the process of learning is the goal, not necessarily the outcome. You research, self-study, Youtube DIY, like a boss and that’s beautiful because no one is going to take your power away. 🌟

Sound familiar?

Learners are excited at the process and the journey of the learning process. The process itself is the win. There’s so many great attributes that Learners contrinute to themselves and to teams. Leaning into Learner means that yoo too can harness the power and edge of what Learners bring:

Harness Your Learning Genius

  • Lean into curiousity. Learners follow their curiosity and let it lead them to lesser known places without fear. Your brain is craving curiosity. Feed it.

  • Include learning in your goals and dreams. Goals are more than just “whats” as in a list of things to accomplish. Goals are just as much about what you want to discover along the way and what you want to master as well as the bottom line. Consider making a list of life mastery along with life goals.

  • Make the blind spots plain. There’s really no reason at all to hide behind the unknown when you can run to them, study up, ask an expert, and make it plain. Not knowing is temporary. Learners are sensitive to what’s not clicking and great at identifying gaps in knowledge and seeing where the big ideas aren’t translating.

Hey Learner, hey. Watch Out for the Pitfalls

Strengths are not innate. Strengths are near perfect performances of you at your best, and that friends, doesn’t just happen. So then, how do you steer clear of the Learner pitfalls?

  • Adopt a No Rabbit Trail philosophy. Curiosity is a beautiful gift but a lack of focus is a trap. You can’t master everything. Allow yourself to be curious about key items: your personal interests, Learners are motivated by the unknown but your time is your currency. Don’t waste it on a rabbit trail. Learn to tame the rabbit trails.

  • Don’t fall so in love with the journey that you forsake the outcome. There are still goals to reach and mountains to climb. Shiny objects can divert your attention from the outcomes that are equally important. Stay committed to the outcomes + the process. They both play a role is telling your story.

  • Boredom ≠ the reason to master new things. If you’re a Learner, you probably get bored easily. Teach yourself to appreciate what you already know and how you’ve come to know it, hone in on your existing knowledge, double-down, gain true mastery, still awhile. New ventures and interests will always lie ahead for first take stock of what’s already served you. Learning new things is fine as long as it doesn’t complicate your core messaging and purpose. Don’t give your desire to master away so easily. Your zone of genius should be 💯clear.

The most successful people know how to stay in their lane, master it and hire people with mastery in areas outside their lane.

You don’t have time to learn it all. Master with laser precision. Get enough knowledge to be dangerous elsewhere. Hire killer experts. Repeat.
